KISR Organizes the 11th Japan-Kuwait Joint Symposium

KISR’s Petroleum Research and Studies Center (PRSC) held a symposium entitled the “11th Japan-Kuwait Joint Symposium – Corrosion and Material Behavior in Petroleum Refining Industry.” In addition to KISR, the symposium was organized by the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), Japan Cooperation Center, Petroleum (JCCP), and the Japan Petroleum Institute (JPI).

At the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Mohammed Salman, Deputy Director General for Research Affairs, gave a speech, on behalf of Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi, KISR’s Director General. The speech pointed out the strong existing relationship between Kuwait and Japan in the field of scientific research related to oil refining. It has stressed that the topic of the symposium conforms to the future oil refining trends related to metal quality and corrosion in oil refineries of the State of Kuwait and neighboring countries.

KISR Director General’s speech also included that the symposium was aimed to enhance Kuwait’s role in the fields of science and technology through international cooperation. Such fields have clear effect on the economy and future of the State of Kuwait. It has also included that the cooperation with Japan goes back to decades. In the nineties, cooperation between the two sides was enhanced by the initiation of cooperation program in the field of scientific research related to oil industry, especially in the field of oil refining and its effect on industry and the environment.

The speech confirmed that the joint efforts between KISR and KNPC in the planning of such activities helped enhance the relationships with the oil sector. It also confirmed that KISR’s management is committed to utilize all its resources to apply KNPC’s plan in enhancing the role of technology.
