KISR has signed a contract with an international consultant to prepare the engineering and technical specifications for designing, establishing, and operating the first renewable energy park. It will be the first plant in Kuwait which will have a multi-technique approach for producing electrical power from renewable sources in Kuwait.
Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi said that KISR has earlier been involved in economic, technical, and environmental studies related to introducing renewable energy in Kuwait. These studies showed that the climatic conditions in Kuwait are conducive to generating electrical energy from renewable energy sources. Dr. Al-Mutairi added that a feasibility study on “Energy Generation Techniques from Renewable Sources in Kuwait,” was conducted by KISR as a prelude to establishing a renewable energy plant with a production capacity of 70 mega watt.
Dr. Salem Al-Hajraf, Manager of KISR’s Renewable Energy Program, said that the park is expected to be completed by 2015, and that the preparation of reference conditions and technical and engineering specifications will take 6 to 12 months. Tenders will be invited, once the specifications are set.
