Under the auspices of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, KISR organized a ceremony to honor its distinctive staff members. In a speech delivered on the Crown Prince’s behalf, Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, the Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education, confirmed that our political leadership attaches a great deal of importance to the development of science, and considers it as necessary to the progress of the society. He added that science is the most important tool for achieving sustainable development, and that the leadership’s strong support will go a long way in the enhancement of scientific research, and its application in various areas.
Dr. Al-Hajraf added that KISR is actively working in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity and Water to establish a renewable energy park. During the ceremony, awards of scientific distinction and accomplishment were given to those honored.
In his speech, Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi indicated that during 2011-2012, 135 research projects in the areas of petroleum, the environment, water, food resources, and economy were implemented at KISR; 65 of these projects were completed during this time, and 70 are ongoing. He pointed out that client contributions from the government and private sectors accounted for 89% of the total cost of research projects and studies undertaken at KISR.
