Clean Energy Initiation Wheel Rolls in to KISR

Dr. Salem Al-Hajraf, KISR’s Innovative and Renewable Energy Program Manager, said that the research in alternative and renewable energy in Kuwait is aimed at integrating traditional energy resources and oil with alternative energy sources through diversification, which will reduce the local expenditure on consumption by approximately 10% to 20%.

Dr. Al-Hajraf said that KISR has recently launched a plan to adopt a new organizational structure that includes four research centers, i.e., Petroleum, Water, Energy and Buildings, and Environment and Life Sciences, where researchers will implement 29 individual research programs. He indicated that KISR’s energy research will consist of two sections, namely consumption rationalization, i.e., the Technology Energy Efficiency Program, and diversification of production resources, i.e., the Innovative and Renewable Energy Program. The latter is aimed at conducting applied research projects to provide the society with engineering solutions for renewable energy applications.

Dr. Al-Hajraf said that the clean energy initiative has already begun, through KISR’s announcement that a comprehensive feasibility study has been completed. The study involved the establishment of three renewable energy plants that generate electrical energy through renewable energy resources that have been shown to be effective under the climatic conditions in Kuwait.
