CATALYST DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH SCIENTIST Background: The successful candidate will become a member of the Expansion and Flexibility , Optimization of Petroleum Refining Processes at KISR. The program is aimed at refining heavy crude oil, improving catalyst performance and reducing the environmental footprint of refining operations. Major duties: To initiate, provide consultation, and conduct research related to the application of nanotechnology for the development of more efficient hydroprocessing catalysts, catalytic systems for the thermal cracking of water for hydrogen production and other catalysts that support modern refining processes; to generate new ideas, develop, and lead research projects and oversee laboratory and field studies on the technologies related to heavy-oil upgrading, clean fuel production and hydrogen production; to form and lead multi-disciplinary technical teams; to maintain awareness of new developments of relevance, particularly in relation to depth imaging and inversion, and help assess their impact on KISR’s research programs and work plans; to report and present research results internally and promote successful workflow; to publish and participate in conferences; and to lead and contribute to manpower development in oil-production-related research. Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD in chemical engineering or a relevant discipline, with a strong background in catalytic refining processes, particularly heavy-oil processing. Ten to 15 years of relevant experience is required. Applicants should have good working knowledge of catalyst testing, catalyst characterization, catalyst synthesis and catalyst scale-up from the laboratory to commercial levels. Experience in industrial research is preferred. Applicants should have published in refereed journals and conferences as well as having produced internal research reports. Applicants should have demonstrated technical leadership, and the ability to clearly articulate the value of technical innovations, and to communicate technical project results clearly and concisely to peers, field staff and management. Applicants should have strong project management skills, a strong interest and track record in developing and applying integrated, multi-disciplinary solutions, and the ability to work both independently and in teams. Applicants should have strong oral and written communication skills in the English language. Applicants who also have strong written and oral communication skills in Arabic will be preferred. |
