REFINERY PROCESS MODELING AND OPTIMIZATION RESEARCH SCIENTIST Background: The successful candidate will become a member of the Expansion and Flexibility , Optimization of Petroleum Refining Processes at KISR. The program is aimed at refining heavy crude oil, improving catalyst performance and reducing the environmental footprint of refining operations. Major duties: To generate new ideas, develop, lead and execute process improvement projects in the areas of performance monitoring, data analysis and data mining, process optimization and control, and process and reactor modeling; to make innovative contributions to technological development using kinetics and reaction engineering; to make determinations regarding and coordinate collection of laboratory, pilot-plant and/or commercial data required for modeling, and integrate models into Aspen HYSYS®, Excel and/or other relevant applications; to maintain awareness of new developments of relevance, particularly in relation to depth imaging and inversion, and help assess their impact on KISR’s research programs and work plans; to report and present research results internally and promote successful workflow; to publish and participate in conferences; and to lead and contribute to manpower development in oil-production-related research. Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD in chemical engineering or a relevant discipline. Ten to 15 years of relevant experience is required. Applicants should have experience in petroleum refinery process design, operation, modeling, optimization, and/or reaction engineering, including the ability to develop reactor kinetics models that show balance in technical depth with practical implementation issues; and development of platforms and computational techniques for simulating and optimizing unit operations using a combination of the Aspen — MATLab and Excel — Windows platforms; as well as industrial research. Applicants should have published in refereed journals and presented at conferences as well as having produced internal research reports. Applicants should have demonstrated technical leadership, and the ability to clearly articulate the value of technical innovations, and to communicate technical project result clearly and concisely to peers, field staff and management. Applicants should have strong project management skills, a strong interest and track record in developing and applying integrated, multi-disciplinary solutions, and the ability to work both independently and in teams. Applicants should have strong oral and written communication skills in the English language. Applicants who also have strong written and oral communication skills in Arabic will be preferred. |
