PETROLEUM GEOPHYSICS RESEARCH SCIENTIST

Background: The successful candidate will become a member of the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Heavy Oil at KISR. The program is aimed at developing heavy-oil fields and maximizing recovery from existing fields.

Major duties: To design and develop innovative geophysics tools and approaches related to EOR and heavy-oil recovery; to plan, direct and participate with other researchers and experts from the oil industry in geological, geochemical and geophysical laboratory and field studies; to participate in assessing the size, orientation and composition of mineral and hydrocarbon deposits; to maintain awareness of new developments of relevance, particularly in relation to depth imaging and inversion, and help assess their impact on KISR’s research programs and work plans; to report and present research results internally and promote successful workflow; to publish and participate in conferences; and to lead and contribute to manpower development in oil-production-related research.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD in petroleum geophysics or a closely related discipline, as well as a strong geologic and petro-physical background, and knowledge of current computer software used for geophysical application. Ten to 15 years of experience in petroleum geophysics research is required. Applicants should have the ability to integrate geologic, well and geophysical data and knowledge in all aspects of seismic data acquisition and processing, three- and four-dimensional seismic analysis and interpretation, and have significant experience in reservoir management employing geophysical surveillance. Applicants should have experience with carbonate petroleum reservoirs and industrial research. Applicants should have published in refereed journals and presented at conferences as well as having produced internal research reports. Applicants should have demonstrated technical leadership, and the ability to clearly articulate the value of technical innovations, and to communicate technical project results clearly and concisely to peers, field staff and management. Applicants should have strong project management skills, a strong interest and track record in developing and applying integrated, multi-disciplinary solutions, and the ability to work both independently and in teams. Applicants should have strong oral and written communication skills in the English language. Applicants who also have strong written and oral communication skills in Arabic will be preferred.
