FRACTURE MECHANICS RESEARCH SCIENTIST WITH A METALLURGY OR MATERIALS SCIENCE  BACKGROUND

Background: The successful candidate will become a member of the Corrosion Program at KISR. The program is aimed at improving the reliability of Kuwait’s oil production facilities and refinery equipment through assessing the integrity of equipment in terms of corrosion and adverse metallurgical effects, and finding the best mitigation approaches.

Major duties: To carry out high-temperature corrosion research (e.g., sulfidation, oxidation, hydrogen attack, carburization, decarburization, etc.), to establish the inter-relationship between the degradation of material properties and the degree of high-temperature attack, and to conduct investigations of failures that are metallurgically induced.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD in metallurgy and/or materials science with a background in corrosion and proven R&D experience in the required type of work. Strong leadership, and the ability to attract research funding, assume project management duties and conduct staff training are highly desirable. A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required.
