Message from the Director General of KISR
Forty years have passed since KISR’s inception. Over the years KISR has matured and made a place for itself nationally, regionally and internationally. I am pleased to be a part of this unique organization at a time when research is getting strong support from the highest authority in Kuwait, His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and other political leaders of Kuwait.
We are in the process of reviewing our past achievements and preparing for our future with plans to create several specialized centers of excellence and links between technology users and providers. We will look closer at our national needs and ways to address them. The process of change will cover the ways we operate, as well as our organizational structure and the areas of focus.
KISR has created a strong knowledge base with regard to its research programs in petroleum resources, water resources, environment and urban development, food resources and biological sciences, and techno-economics. In addition its information technology (IT) systems are among the best in the region, particularly in the area of knowledge management (KM). KISR has established both the Kuwait Geographical Information Center (KGIC) and the Kuwait Distance Learning Center (KDLC). In addition, KISR has uploaded all of the issues of its monthly magazine, Science and Technology, to its website, to provide easy access for Arab readers the world over.
KISR has come a long way in the years since its inception. Although our current and future challenges are tremendous, we will optimize our resources and take advantage of every opportunity to achieve our goals.
