The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) constantly endeavors to support developmental and awareness projects at its research centers. Thus, it supported the project entitled “Conservation of the Environment and Fish Aquaculture” of the Aquaculture Program, the Environment and Life Sciences Research Center. The project belongs to Mulla Sulaiman Primary School for Boys, which obtained the first prize of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The project aimed to make students aware of the importance of conserving marine environment and fish resources. In addition, the project aimed to indicate the importance of aquaculture to compensate the severe decline in fish stock, which led to catching few fish, as well as price increase.

Marine creatures and fish resources are of the first aspects that KISR’s activities focused on nearly 45 years ago, through a research section. This section was soon transformed into a pioneering department in the field of aquaculture and fisheries’ research. The activities of this department now focuses on two main programs, namely the Ecosystem-Based Management of Marine Resources, which is one of the most comprehensive and distinctive programs, through which scientific research projects specialized in fisheries management, marine creatures, and oceanography’s sciences are implemented. The second program focuses on aquaculture, and focuses on the aquaculture researches of shrimp, and main species of fish.
