Food and Nutrition

Improving the Health of Kuwait’s Population

The Food and Nutrition Program’s goal is to contribute to the improvement of the health and wellness of Kuwait’s population. Recent studies have shown that Kuwait imports about 90% of its food from markets where food control measures may be minimal and are oftentimes inadequate to ensure the acceptable levels of quality and safety. Additionally, Kuwait currently faces a high prevalence of overweight, obesity, and nutrition-related non-communicable diseases with an estimated three quarters of the adult Kuwaiti population being overweight or obese. Considering these risks to public health, the Food and Nutrition Program works to provide evidence-based information to the Ministry of Health to make recommendations on food related policies in order to measure, monitor, and improve public health.
