A Study of the Corrosivity of the Kuwaiti Crude Oils, Phase I: Heavy Crudes
Characterizing the physical and chemical qualities of local crude
In this project, Kuwait Export, Ratawi Burgan, Eocene and Lower Fars crudes were distilled and characterized to study the physical and chemical properties. The study was conducted with an emphasis on the corrosive nature of these different crude products. The corrosion work was made under flow conditions at high temperatures. The corrosivity of the crude oils were found to be in the following order: Eocene > Ratawi Burgan > Kuwait Export > Lower Fars. The mode of corrosion attack was via direct reaction of sulfur compounds with the alloy surface. It was found that the corrosion rate generally increased with the increase in temperature and flow velocity
