Floating Breakwater for Kuwait’s Marine Conditions
Ecologically friendly innovation
Cost effective protection of coasts from wave erosion, protecting offshore oil terminal facilities from direct wave action, and creating relatively calm marine areas to facilitate extended construction periods are examples of important marine activities. Rubble mound designs are mainly used at present but are more expensive the deeper the water level becomes. A floating breakwater is suitable in such situations. Conventional pontoon type floating breakwaters are wider and hence costly. CMP has invented a narrower floating breakwater, complemented with skirt walls. This invention was granted a US patent (Patent No. US 9,340,940 B2) in May 2016. This design is easy to construct and install, its reorientation in the field is relatively simple, it will not damage corals at the seabed nor pollute the body of water it lies within, and is very suitable for Kuwait as well as for other Gulf marine conditions.
