Specialized Unit for Urban Greenery Research and Development

Recognizing the significance of the environment and its effect on economic growth, Kuwait defined its 2035 vision to promote sustainable economic development while incorporating biodiversity and conservation management strategies. The vision aims at transforming Kuwait into a prominent economic and financial hub while sustaining biodiversity and protected areas, reinforcing environmental legislation, promoting education and awareness and increasing the sustainable use of biological resources. Consistent with these objectives, KISR proposes the establishment of facilities that will enable applied biological resources-related research while demonstrating sustainable practices and know-how. The project proposal involves the creation of a local urban greenery research facility, which will serve as a platform that promotes specialized programs, research studies, and regional and international workshops. It will also demonstrate locally appropriate plants and materials, sustainable landscape practices and provide a venue for research.
