Optimization of Petroleum Refinery Processes

The OPRP Program was created to support Kuwait’s oil refining industry. Much of the work the program has done in collaboration with the oil sector includes; improving ultra-heavy crude oil production; increasing the conversion of liquid hydrocarbon resources into clean transportation fuels to meet tighter fuel regulations; and managing refinery waste catalysts. Much of this research requires a variety of mostly hydroprocessing catalysts and processes that need to be customized to meet the demands of Kuwaiti feedstock in order to minimize operating costs, energy consumption and environmental impact. The program also focuses on developing novel technological solutions that generate competitive advantages for the best use of hydrocarbons by means of their conversion to fuels of high ecological quality and added value.
