Asphaltene Deposition in Marrat Reservoir
Investigation and remediation
Kuwait’s oil industry is currently facing production challenges related to asphaltene deposition during production in some of their wells. The deposition results in a reduction of production amounts and shut-off in the problem wells and may also lead to formation damage. To address this challenge this project was initiated to investigate the potential of asphaltene deposition during production in selected reservoirs, and assess possible remedies. The research developed by this project will also establish a database on the performance of various chemical inhibitors and will identify the optimal composition and concentration of the most effective inhibitors for flow assurance and continuous injection in the field. The research is a continuation of previous preliminary studies that were conducted by the Center on similar challenges.
